David Melnick's article “The ‘Ought’ of Seeing: Zukofsky’s Bottom” first appeared in the fifth issue of John Taggart's MAPS (1973). As far as we know, it has never been reprinted. We reproduce it here with David Melnick's kind permission. Zukofsky scholar & biographer Mark Scroggins has described it as “the best single thing ever written about Bottom: on Shakespeare.” We agree!
